What you can do about telemarketers

Yes, there are things you can do to get even.

Abandoned Calls

The most common violation that we receive here at the offices of JTK are abandoned calls.  An abandoned call is when you answer your telephone and you are not connected to a live person within two seconds.  If you receive an abandoned call, you may hear dead air, clicking sounds, hear a prerecorded message, or a hang-up.  We truly enjoy reporting these parasites to the Federal Communications Commission.

Note that the FCC rule is live person within two seconds.  This means that all prerecorded calls are illegal.

Every time you receive one of these calls, immediately write down the caller-id indication, time and date.  If the caller ID indicates the name of the business that called you, be sure to note that also.

Then fill out the FCC complaint form.  It will only take about three minutes your first time.  Next time you report a telemarketer violation, you will be able to go through the form very quickly.

The F.C.C. does go after these slime-ball telemarketers.  Many have been fined heavily, and some have even been sent to jail.

To report an 'abandoned call' (other types of complaints are very similar to this procedure):

  • click for the FCC complaint form

  • Select "Telemarketing, Prerecorded Messages and Do-Not-Call"

  • Select "Abandoned calls"

  • After that step, go to the bottom of the page and click "continue to online form"

  • Enter your information - be truthful ! You are submitting a complaint with a Federal agency and perjury is a very bad thing.

  • When filling out the form be sure to click the box that shows that caller ID information was obtained.  Then, new boxes will appear for you to enter the caller ID information of the slime that called you.

  • In a few days you will receive a letter in the mail from the Federal Communications Commission acknowledging your complaint.

Junk Fax

Junk facsimile cost you time, paper, ink, and frustration.  You can also report these slime to the FCC.

Unsolicited commercial emails on a cellphone

Because you pay by the minute for a cellphone, or by the text, getting unsolicited crap from telemarketers on your cellphone costs more than your time, it directly wastes your money.  Be sure to report these violations also.

JTK Communications has been involved in communications since 1972.   Alan Dewey, principal of the corporation, began earning Federal Communications Commission licenses in that year.

Caller - I.D.

The most important thing in battling telemarketers is having caller-id.
